Man Jailed for Attempting to Smuggle Cocaine Worth £28,000
A 25-year-old man has been jailed for five years and eight months after smuggling 113 grams of cocaine, worth up to £28,000, into Jersey.
Jake Thompson, from Stockport, arrived on a flight from Manchester with his girlfriend in October last year when Customs officers stopped him. A search revealed the drugs hidden internally in a condom. His phone contained messages indicating plans to supply the cocaine to a dealer.
Thompson admitted to attempting to import the drugs, claiming he was a courier and that his girlfriend was unaware of his actions. The court gave him credit for an early guilty plea and his remorse but emphasised the serious impact of drug trafficking on communities.
The original six-year sentence requested by prosecutors was slightly reduced in recognition of his cooperation. Customs officials praised the vigilance of border officers in thwarting the smuggling attempt.
