Jersey Business Leader Embarks on 500-Mile Walk to Honour Friends and Raise Awareness for Men’s Mental Health

Paul Fox, Managing Director of Zingela Club in Jersey, is preparing to walk 500 miles along the St Aubin’s Bay cycle track this September in a powerful tribute to friends lost to suicide and to support men’s mental health awareness.

Between 1 and 18 September 2025, Fox will complete 84 laps of the scenic seafront stretch between St Helier and St Brelade as part of a campaign he’s calling Foxtrot500. The challenge is dedicated in particular to his close friend, 'Diamond' Rick Jordas, who died by suicide in February, along with two other friends who also tragically took their own lives this year.

The effort is in support of Mind Jersey, a mental health charity working to break the stigma that often prevents men from seeking help.

“Men are not always good at opening up,” Fox said. “We wear a mask and tell people we’re fine, but inside, we’re struggling. There’s this idea that showing emotion is weakness — but in reality, asking for help takes real strength.”

Fox’s mission extends beyond his personal 500-mile walk. He’s calling on islanders to take on their own "500 challenges" to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health. The movement has already inspired a range of creative responses — from 500-mile runs and cycling events to 500 minutes of padel and even one supporter planning to bake 500 cupcakes.

Fifteen other groups are already signed up to participate in themed activities, and Fox hopes corporate teams and individuals alike will join him for a lap — or more — of his walk.

“The aim is to create a community effort. Whether you walk a mile, ride a bike, or bake, it all contributes to starting conversations and removing the stigma around men’s mental health,” he said.

A dedicated JustGiving page has been set up by Mind Jersey for donations, and the Foxtrot500 website will feature regular updates, future events, and details of a charity gala.
