Independent Review of Inclusion in Jersey Schools Published
An independent review into inclusion and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has been published.
Commissioned by the Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning and the Interim Chief Officer of CYPES, the review assessed inclusion practices across Jersey, identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and actions for change.
The Government has accepted all findings and begun implementing several recommendations. The Minister expressed confidence in school staff and the central education team to deliver improvements for all pupils.
Conducted over six months, the review involved 20 school visits, engagement with staff, pupils and parents, and a survey of 276 parents and carers. It praised strong inclusive practice but highlighted the need for greater consistency and stronger leadership.
Recent leadership changes, including seconded headteachers, are already strengthening collaboration between schools and the central team.
Deputy Rob Ward, Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, said:“This review is a turning point. It offers a clear roadmap for improvement while recognising the dedication of our schools. We are committed to building a truly inclusive education system for Jersey.”
