Firefighters Issue Hot Weather Warning After Blaze at Greve de Lecq
A hot weather warning has been issued by Jersey Fire and Rescue following a significant fire on open land at Greve de Lecq.
Crews were called to the scene around 16:00 BST on Thursday, where flames had spread across an area measuring approximately 20 metres by 100 metres. Two firefighting units responded and successfully brought the fire under control. They remained on-site afterward to ensure the area was made safe.
In a public safety message, the fire service urged islanders to take extra care when visiting open areas during the ongoing hot and dry weather. They warned that in such conditions, fires can ignite quickly and spread rapidly, posing a risk to people and the environment.
Officials are encouraging the public to avoid open flames, dispose of cigarettes responsibly, and report any signs of fire immediately.
