Jersey’s government is proposing new legislation to strengthen oversight of the island’s gas network to enhance safety and security.
Home Affairs Minister Mary Le Hegarat cited past incidents, including explosions at Haut du Mont and Mont Pinel, as well as a gas outage in recent years, as reasons for the proposed changes.
The new powers would require gas suppliers to inform the minister of any events that could pose a risk to public safety or disrupt the gas supply.
If approved, the legislation would also grant officials the authority to enter specific premises, seize documents, and request critical information.
