Channel Islands Airlines Urge Patience Amid Global Tech Glitch
Travellers flying from the Channel Islands faced delays on Tuesday morning after a global technical outage disrupted key airline systems, forcing staff to check in passengers manually.
Aurigny and Blue Islands, the two main carriers operating out of Guernsey and Jersey, have both urged passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual and to bring booking references and identification with them to help ease the check-in process.
The outage affected the airlines’ departure control systems, as well as those of several other carriers around the world. As a result, passengers who had already checked in online were asked to repeat the process in person at the airport.
An Aurigny spokesperson said the airline was doing all it could to minimise disruption: “The check-in process is taking a little longer than usual, and we thank everyone for their patience, understanding and the kindness shown to our ground teams who are working hard to get everyone where they need to be.”
In addition to delays at the Channel Islands' airports, the airline confirmed that manual check-ins were also being carried out at Southampton and London Gatwick.
The disruption also extended to customer-facing services, with both airlines confirming that website and call centre systems used for booking, changes, and check-in had been impacted. Customers hoping to make new bookings were advised to try again later in the day as technical teams worked to resolve the issue.
While operations remained steady despite the challenges, passengers are being encouraged to continue checking for updates and to allow extra time when travelling.
