Gladys Kiptoo has set a new women’s course record at the Jersey Marathon after completing the race in 2:35:57.

Kiptoo’s winning time was almost five minutes faster than the previous record of 2:40:47, set by Alice Brahma last year.

Simon Kimtai was the first man across the finish line, recording an impressive time of 2:19:56.

The event attracted more than 2,100 runners, with supporters lining the route and creating a lively atmosphere around the island.

Among the other winners were Team Endurance Coaching Crew, who claimed the five-person relay in 2:38:19, while Team Over the Hill won the two-person relay with a time of 2:37:28.

Leo Gage took victory in the Marathon Mile after completing the distance in 5:13.

Oliver fastest Jersey athlete

James Oliver was the fastest Jersey athlete in the marathon, finishing in 2:36:33.

Speaking after the race, Oliver said he had enjoyed the event and praised the weather and atmosphere along the course.

“It was a good day out, I enjoyed it,” he said. “Lovely weather as well and a great atmosphere out on the course.”

After completing the 26-mile challenge, Oliver said he was looking forward to relaxing.

“Just glad to get finished and now probably have a beer and relax for the day!”

He also highlighted the importance of having friends and family supporting him at the finish.

“It’s always great, especially when you’ve got your friends and family over here. It’s always nice to have a great reception when you cross the line after a gruelling 26 miles.”

Community celebration

Standard Chartered Jersey chief executive Henry Baye said the event’s success was down to the efforts of runners, volunteers, organisers and supporters.

He said the marathon had once again demonstrated the community spirit of the island and praised everyone involved in making the event a success.

Baye added that the bank was proud to support an event which brings people together while also helping local charities and young people.

The record-breaking performances and strong turnout made for a memorable day of racing, with runners of all abilities taking part and supporters turning out across the course to cheer them on.
