Get tested' urges woman with incurable cancer

Woman with Incurable Cancer Urges Breast Screenings

Lorna Pirozzolo, 41, diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2019, is encouraging women to attend breast screenings when invited. She praised Jersey's new opt-out screening system, launching in 2025, which will automatically invite women aged 50-70 for mammograms using a new £255,000 machine.

Ms. Pirozzolo emphasised the importance of early detection, saying, “Finding it sooner is better,” and warned against delaying screenings out of fear. She urged women to self-check monthly and highlighted that early-detected breast cancer is highly survivable.

Having undergone chemotherapy and immunotherapy, Ms. Pirozzolo hopes her experience inspires others to prioritize screenings to avoid more invasive treatments. She also runs cancer.je to support patients and advocates through Jersey's cancer strategy group.
