The Better Journeys Project has announced new funding to help schools across the Channel Islands encourage pupils to walk, cycle and scoot to school.

Applications are now open for the project’s Fund for Schools, which offers financial support and expert advice to help education providers improve facilities and programmes that promote active travel.

Schools in Guernsey can apply for grants of up to £3,000, while those in Jersey are eligible for up to £1,500.

The initiative aims to back projects such as secure bike storage, improved access routes, lockers, loan bikes and awareness campaigns designed to make active travel safer and more appealing for students.

Parents and schools are encouraged to identify a suitable project and complete a short online application by 10 January 2026. Successful applicants will be informed by 1 February 2026.

Funding for the 2025/26 round is supported by Appleby Global, ongoing contributions from The Tom Dorey Eco-Legacy, and an additional £1,500 from the Health Improvement Commission for Guernsey.
