A French fishing vessel was detained on 24 June after it was caught operating without a licence in Jersey’s territorial waters.

The boat was intercepted by Jersey’s Fisheries Protection Vessel and found to be fishing illegally. Its catch was returned to the sea, and the vessel was escorted to St Helier Harbour, where it was formally detained.

The skipper appeared before the Magistrates Court on 25 June and was fined £1,500. The detention notice has since been lifted, and the vessel is free to depart.
