French Racing Trimaran Recovered After Dramatic Midnight Rescue off Guernsey


A French racing yacht that capsized in rough seas off Guernsey has been safely recovered, following a dramatic overnight rescue involving air and sea crews.


The vessel, Koesio, was competing in an official transatlantic race from Le Havre, France, to Martinique in the Caribbean when it overturned in the early hours of Sunday (26 October), a few miles northwest of Guernsey.

Daring night-time rescue


The two crew members were rescued after a complex operation in challenging conditions, coordinated between Guernsey’s lifeboat and a French helicopter.Both sailors were airlifted to France for medical checks and are understood to have escaped injury.


Yacht brought ashore


Following the rescue, the capsized trimaran drifted south overnight before being recovered and craned onto a shingle bank on Sunday afternoon to prevent further damage.
