Ferry operator DFDS has confirmed it will introduce an earlier morning departure for its fast ferry services from St Malo, following successful discussions with port authorities.
The company has secured access to the popular 7.45am local departure slot (6.45am GMT), bringing an end to negotiations over sailing times. DFDS said the agreement would benefit both French visitors travelling to Jersey and islanders heading to France on day trips.
The earlier sailing is expected to allow passengers more time at their destination, while also helping DFDS strengthen confidence in forecast passenger numbers on the St Malo route.
Visit Jersey chief executive Tricia Warwick welcomed the announcement, saying the revised timetable would enhance the island’s appeal to visitors from France.
She said earlier departures would give travellers more time to enjoy Jersey and described the new schedule as a positive step for maintaining strong links with neighbouring regions. Ms Warwick added that improved connectivity would support efforts to attract more visitors from Brittany and surrounding areas, which has been identified as a priority for 2026.
The move comes at a time when Jersey’s visitor numbers have fallen by almost 20% compared with last year, increasing the importance of initiatives aimed at boosting tourism.
