Deputy calls for urgent action to revive Les Quennevais precinct

A St Brelade politician has warned that the neglect of Les Quennevais’ shopping precinct is leaving her “banging [her] head against the proverbial wall” as calls grow for investment in the west of the Island.

Deputy Helen Miles said too many units in the precinct and parade stand empty, with eight currently vacant — some in such poor condition that she described them as “unlettable.”

She is urging the government to include regeneration of the area in its Future Fit Roadmap, arguing that residents in the west deserve a retail hub they can be proud of.

“People are being driven into town to access services and shops that could be offered here,”

she said, warning that without improvements, more islanders will turn to online shopping — weakening both community life and local business.

Deputy Miles also raised concerns about the impression given to visitors, noting that the Number 15 bus from the Airport passes directly by the precinct.

“This is not the image we should be presenting to people arriving in Jersey for the first time,” she added.
