French Fishermen Fined for Keeping Undersized Spider Crabs in Jersey Waters

Two French fishermen have each been fined £1,500 by Jersey’s Magistrate’s Court after admitting to keeping spider crabs below the legal size limit.

Guillaume Levee and Jonathan Dramard pleaded guilty on Monday to the offence, which breaches local marine conservation rules designed to protect young marine life.

Jersey’s Marine Resources Department stressed the importance of upholding these regulations, stating that minimum size limits are vital to ensuring species have the chance to reproduce and maintain healthy fish stocks.

“We take the protection of juvenile fish and shellfish seriously,” a spokesperson said. “Sustainability is key to the future of our fisheries.”
