A local takeaway owner says reopening his business after weeks of road closures feels “like Christmas and a birthday all at once.”
Tom Howell, who runs Prime Fry, was forced to shut his doors early for the summer after roadworks at Trinity Road junction left trade unsustainable. The closures also hit neighbouring businesses, including a launderette and Chinese takeaway.
The works, which started on 5 August, were extended when engineers uncovered hidden holes beneath the road during resurfacing. The road finally reopened on 9 September following what the Infrastructure Department described as “technically challenging” repairs.
Mr Howell said: “We’ve been closed for nearly four weeks and at last we can get back to normal. We’re just so pleased.”
The government had originally planned to finish by 1 September, to coincide with the end of school holidays.
