Jersey Airport Set for Major Departure Lounge Transformation

A significant revamp of Jersey Airport’s departure lounge is set to begin next month, with major upgrades aimed at enhancing the travel experience for passengers.

Ports of Jersey has announced that the refurbishment will include expanded food and retail outlets, quiet zones, a dedicated family area, and panoramic views of the runway.

The overhaul comes just ahead of the opening of a new exclusive first-class lounge, launching this Friday. For £28, travellers will be able to enjoy 90 minutes of access to the premium space, which includes complimentary food and drinks, Wi-Fi, and a TV sports zone. The lounge will be operated by Number One, a company that manages similar facilities across UK airports, and will be located in the upstairs atrium.

The first phase of the wider redevelopment project will begin in August, with major construction expected to take around 14 months to complete. The redesign will also involve the removal of the current disruption desk, previously used for assisting passengers during delays or cancellations, and restructuring of some back-office areas to accommodate temporary walkways during construction.

As part of a more inclusive travel environment, an additional space called the Sunflower Room will also be introduced. Designed as a calm retreat for passengers needing a break from the sensory overload of travel, the space will offer a quieter environment for those with hidden disabilities or sensory sensitivities.

Matt Thomas, Chief Executive of Ports of Jersey, described the project as a “big step” for the airport.

“As with any project of this scale, there will be some disruption as we build a much more welcoming, efficient, and unmistakably Jersey space for travellers,” he said.“We really appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to delivering something the whole island can feel proud of.”

The redevelopment marks a new chapter for Jersey Airport as it aims to provide both locals and visitors with a more modern, comfortable, and customer-friendly departure experience.
