Duck Drama in Jersey: Firefighters Reunite Mother Duck with Ducklings
Firefighters in Jersey came to the rescue of a distressed mother duck and her seven ducklings after receiving a call from the JSPCA.
The heartwarming rescue unfolded in St Brelade, where four ducklings had become trapped in a private swimming pool and were unable to escape. Meanwhile, three of their siblings had fallen into a nearby drain.
Equipped with nets, steady hands, and teamwork, crews from the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service managed to safely retrieve all seven ducklings. Thankfully, none were injured during the ordeal.
According to the service, the mother duck remained close throughout the rescue but kept her distance, declining to be rescued herself.
"She was never far away, watching closely, but didn’t want to leave her ducklings," a spokesperson said.
Watch Commander Ryan reflected on the incident, saying: “It might not have involved fire or high ladders today, but it was just as meaningful. We’re always proud to lend a hand—whatever the situation.”
This isn’t the first time Jersey’s firefighters have come to the aid of animals. In April, they rescued a dog stranded on a cliff, and earlier in January, they helped guide a herd of cows out of the sea.
