Jersey Charity Launches World Ocean Week with Youth-Focused Events
Jersey-based environmental charity Ocean Culture Life (OCL) has launched its annual World Ocean Week (WOW) celebrations with a range of ocean-themed activities aimed at inspiring young people.
In partnership with the island’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), this year’s programme includes interactive workshops, storytelling sessions, and hands-on conservation projects. The events, which began on Monday in St Ouen, mark the third year of WOW in Jersey.
Co-founder Tamsin Raine described the opening as "buzzing with energy" and highlighted the importance of connecting youth to the ocean in fun, memorable ways. “It’s these experiences that plant the seeds of long-term change,” she said.
Speakers for WOW 2025 include South African conservationist Zandile Ndhlovu and British biologist and filmmaker Kaush Subramaniam.
Other highlights include a community paddle out, sensory workshops, and a local marine life display.
Hundreds of students are expected to take part, with celebrations culminating on World Ocean Day, 8 June.
