Ports of Jersey has been recognised for its dedication to environmental sustainability, earning its first EcoPorts Port Environmental Review System (PERS) certification — an internationally respected standard within the maritime industry.
Announced on Monday, the accreditation follows a comprehensive review of how the organisation manages its environmental impact, engages with the community and stakeholders, and implements continuous improvements across its operations.
Captain William Sadler, Jersey’s Harbour Master, said the certification reflected years of teamwork and investment. “This is the result of ongoing collaboration and a shared vision for a greener future for Jersey’s maritime sector,” he said.
EcoPorts coordinator Tim Verhoeven praised the achievement, noting that it places Ports of Jersey among a network of European ports leading the way in sustainable port management. “By meeting the high standards of the PERS programme, Ports of Jersey demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and continuous improvement,” he added.
The certification underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to balance operational excellence with long-term environmental stewardship.
