Jersey’s Fort Regent Revamp Could Attract Top Acts, Says Comedy Club Owner
A proposed £110m transformation of Fort Regent in Jersey could help bring major entertainers to the island, according to a local comedy club owner.
Neal Fryer, owner of the Star Stage Comedy Club, welcomed the government’s plans, saying the redevelopment could “open up so many different acts” that currently bypass Jersey due to limited venue options.
The vision, led by the Jersey Development Company (JDC), aims to turn Fort Regent into a vibrant hub for entertainment, socialising, and recreation, with a focus on children and young adults.
The plans include a 2,500-seat theatre, a six-screen cinema, and a 12-lane bowling alley. A return of the Fort Regent cable cars and landscaped gardens is also proposed.
Fryer highlighted that some comedians had previously declined to perform on the island due to the lack of suitable venues. “All the big names want to come here, but when I tell them about the current venue options, they decline,” he said. “This would be a huge benefit for both locals and tourists.”
The fort is set to be vacated by December 2025, with construction expected to begin in early 2026 and finish by December 2028. An independent public survey on the plans remains open until Sunday, 18 May.
