Jersey Airport Operations Director Resigns After 17 Months in Post

The Director of Operations at Jersey Airport, Ashley Maggs, has stepped down after just under a year and a half in the senior role, Ports of Jersey has confirmed.

Mr Maggs began his career with the organisation in 2014, originally joining the Airport’s Rescue and Fire Fighting Service. He rose through the ranks, later becoming Deputy Director and eventually stepping into the top operational role in February 2024, following the retirement of his predecessor, Robin MacRae.

Over the past decade, Maggs has become a familiar face to many islanders, often acting as the public spokesperson for Jersey Airport during major incidents — including the terminal evacuation following a bomb threat earlier this year and the recent lifting of enhanced security measures.

In a message sent to airport staff and seen by this newspaper, Maggs cited personal reflection in his decision to step down:

“After much reflection and consideration, I have made the decision to resign. I am proud of what we've achieved together, what we've delivered, and the teamwork that defines us, especially when faced with challenges.”

Ports of Jersey, which oversees the island’s air and sea gateways, praised Maggs' contributions over the past 11 years, calling him a “fantastic colleague” and acknowledging his impact on day-to-day airport operations.

“Ashley has been a key member of our team for more than a decade,” the Ports said in a statement. “Business continues as usual as Ashley works his six-month notice period and recruitment has already begun for a successor.”

Maggs will remain in post during the transition period.

Meanwhile, the Ports of Jersey moved to quash speculation around wider changes in senior leadership, confirming that CEO Matt Thomas has no plans to leave. His ongoing role is seen as crucial as both Jersey Airport and the harbour continue with major infrastructure upgrades.
