Electric car incentive scheme ends in Jersey

Electric Vehicle Incentive Scheme in Jersey Closes After Over 1,200 Allocations

A scheme designed to help people in Jersey purchase electric vehicles has officially closed after providing over 1,200 incentives to islanders and businesses.

The Electric Vehicle Purchase Incentive (EVPI) scheme, which launched in August 2023, offered up to £3,500 towards the cost of a new or used electric car or van.

Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce, described the response to the scheme as “much greater and quicker” than anticipated.

Reducing Emissions

Transport remains the largest contributor to Jersey's greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 45%, according to Infrastructure and Environment. Deputy Luce expressed his satisfaction at the scheme's success, noting its impact.

“The funds for this incentive were coming to an end when I last announced in October, and as expected, the final incentives have now been allocated, naturally bringing the scheme to a close," he said.

The minister emphasised the long-term benefits, stating: “This scheme will continue to deliver significant emission reductions for years to come, as more electric vehicles on our roads lead to a decrease in petrol and diesel journeys.”
