The Duchess of Edinburgh will travel to Jersey next month to learn more about efforts to promote sustainability within the island’s farming and fishing sectors.

During the two-day visit on 23 and 24 June, the duchess is expected to meet industry representatives and hear how local producers are working to balance food production with environmental responsibility.

Organisers said the visit will also focus on education initiatives designed to teach young people about food sources and the importance of sustainable practices.

The duchess is due to meet members of Jersey’s dairy, potato, seafood and fishing industries as part of the programme.

Her visit will conclude with a stop at Eyecan, the island charity supporting people living with sight loss, which marked its 140th anniversary earlier this year.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has long supported organisations focused on preventing avoidable blindness and tackling sight loss.

A reception in aid of the NSPCC will also take place at Government House during the visit. The duchess has served as a patron of the charity since 2016.
