A new centre offering affordable, recycled mobility and care equipment has opened in Jersey.
The Equipment Hub, located at La Collette Recycling Centre, has been established by disability charity Enable Jersey to provide islanders with a cost-effective alternative to buying new accessibility aids.
The hub stocks second-hand items such as wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers, and recliner chairs, all of which are serviced before being sold.
Enable Jersey CEO Sean Pontin described the launch as “a truly fantastic community project,” highlighting the growing demand for accessible equipment in the island.
“People often tell us, ‘My husband is ready for discharge, but there aren’t enough hospital beds,’ Mr Pontin said. “We can help by offering another choice. For those happy to use equipment in good condition, this hub provides an affordable solution. It benefits individuals, government departments, and the hospital system alike.”
The charity has already received more than 300 requests for equipment in 2025, and the hub is the result of two years of planning and collaboration. Enable Jersey also plans to expand the service over the coming year to meet rising demand.
The hub was formally opened by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor of Jersey and will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10:00 to 16:00 BST.
