DFDS to Trial Weekly Ferry Service Between Jersey and Guernsey

Ferry operator DFDS is set to launch a trial inter-island service between Jersey and Guernsey, starting 16 June. The new route will run once a week, with sailings every Monday until the end of August.

The move comes amid tensions between the islands’ governments over their selection of different ferry operators, which has led to reduced travel links between Jersey and Guernsey.

Guernsey’s Deputy Neil Inder welcomed the new service, saying it would offer islanders “more choice and greater flexibility” alongside existing routes operated by Brittany Ferries and Islands Unlimited.

“This new inter-island route complements the current Wednesday service from Brittany Ferries and supports our investment in Islands Unlimited, which now operates a daily foot passenger service,” he said.

Berthing trials for DFDS’s high-speed vessel Tarifa Jet are scheduled to take place at Guernsey’s St Peter Port Harbour on Thursday.

DFDS said the new route reflects its ongoing commitment to serving Jersey and supporting regional connectivity. Chris Parker, DFDS’s route director for Jersey, said the company was excited to launch the “eagerly anticipated sailings to Guernsey.”

“We’ve worked closely with local businesses and the tourism sector to enhance inter-island transport options, alongside our established services to Poole, Portsmouth, and St Malo,” he added.
