DFDS has expressed plans to offer extended day trips between Jersey and France next year, although limited docking facilities remain a challenge.
Chris Parker, DFDS’s route director, told Jersey’s Economic and International Affairs Panel that the company had inherited harbour slots from former operator Condor, which were not always ideal for longer visits.
“We’ve been working to maximize the time our vessels can spend in St Malo,” Mr Parker said, noting that the French port currently has only one functioning ramp and a temporary berth, making turnaround times tight.
Loading and unloading on the temporary berth also adds extra time, he explained.
DFDS assumed Jersey’s ferry services in March after securing a 20-year contract from the island’s government, taking over from Condor.
