Deputy Proposes Separate Election Dates for Senators
Jersey politician Montfort Tadier has called for elections for senators to be held on a different day from those for deputies and constables.
Under his proposal, the senatorial vote would take place a month earlier, giving islanders more time to consider candidates. Currently, the draft law schedules all three elections for the same day, 7 June next year.
Senators are due to return after being scrapped in 2021, when the States Assembly voted to simplify the system. Tadier said separate dates would help voters focus on each race and give potential candidates a clearer choice of which role to pursue.
The States is expected to debate the proposal next month.
