Jersey politician Philip Ozouf has been suspended from the States Assembly for 28 days after members voted 29–17 in favour of disciplinary action. Three members abstained.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee brought forward the proposition after Ozouf was fined for speeding and failing to attend three parish hall enquiries. He also faced a separate fine for not having a valid insurance disc.

Ozouf, who was first elected in 1999 and has held senior ministerial roles including deputy chief minister, apologised for his actions during the debate. He admitted to a “lapse of judgement” and said he had been dealing with personal challenges.

This marks only the second time a States member has been suspended, the last being Stuart Syvret in 1996.
