Ferry Company Cancels Fewer Than 5% of Sailings in Jersey’s First Quarter, Minister Reports
New data reveals that less than 5% of ferry sailings operated by DFDS in Jersey have been cancelled during the first three months since the service launched in March.
The figures, shared by Deputy Kirsten Morel, Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, cover high-speed passenger and car sailings provided by the company. Out of 456 sailings, only 10 cancellations were recorded, reflecting a generally positive performance.
However, the data also indicated that 13% of freight sailings experienced delays during this period.
Concerns have been raised regarding cancellations related to schedule changes made to accommodate football fans traveling to the Muratti match in Guernsey last May. In particular, two Portsmouth sailings were cancelled for the event, prompting questions from Deputy Montfort Tadier of the Scrutiny Liaison Committee.
Deputy Tadier has formally asked how the decision was made, whether passengers received any compensation, and if the potential reputational impact on DFDS was taken into account.
Minister Morel is expected to provide a response by 23 June.
