Jersey Yacht Rescue Highlights Importance of Safety Equipment

Boat owners in Jersey are being urged to ensure they carry essential safety equipment after a yacht lost engine power and became stranded on a reef.

The incident occurred on Monday morning, when the vessel was found drifting south of Raudiere on a falling tide, according to the Jersey Lifeboat Association (JLA).

In response, the JLA launched the all-weather lifeboat Sir Max Aitken III at approximately 09:15 BST to assist the stricken yacht.

Thanks to the crew's preparedness and their ability to contact the coastguard promptly, rescue teams were able to reach them quickly and tow the vessel safely back to St Helier.

"The casualty vessel was secured alongside Albert Pier shortly before 09:50," the association reported.

After a brief wash down and routine checks, Sir Max Aitken III and her crew were back on standby and ready for further operations before 10:30.

The association described the incident as "a timely reminder of how vital it is to carry essential safety equipment on board."
