Construction has officially started at the former Ann Street Brewery site in St Helier, with the government describing the development as a “major milestone” for youth services on the island.

Project leaders confirmed the new building will rise to five storeys and feature a range of facilities, including a rooftop kick pitch, a large climbing wall, a dance studio and a sports hall, alongside other dedicated spaces for young people.

The Youth Enquiry Service is expected to relocate to a standalone building on the site in January 2027, ahead of the full youth centre opening planned for 2028. Organisers also announced a pop-up information event at Millennium Town Park on 10 April, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the project.

Mark Capern said young people would continue to play a key role in shaping the development.

“The voices of young people have already helped get us to where we are today and we’re not done yet,” he said.

“The next step is to recruit Youth Ambassadors who will join us in shaping the next phase of the design.

“This new centre is being shaped around what they have asked for, ensuring it becomes a space where all young people can feel welcome, supported, and inspired.”
