A local contractor has been appointed to overhaul the departure lounge at Jersey Airport as part of a major terminal upgrade.

Ports of Jersey (PoJ) confirmed Trinity-based Ashbe Construction will carry out the £10m redevelopment, a key element of its wider programme to modernise the airport building, which dates back to 1997.

Work on the project began in January. The first phase of the refurbished lounge is scheduled to open in summer 2026, with the full facility expected to welcome passengers again by summer 2027.

Ashbe managing director Ben Cairney said the firm was eager to begin work alongside PoJ on what he described as a significant scheme for the island.

“We’re honoured to have secured this contract,” he said. “As a Jersey company, it’s especially meaningful to contribute to improving the island’s primary gateway.”

PoJ described the contractor’s appointment as an important step forward for the redevelopment. Chief executive Matt Thomas said the scheme would deliver more than a visual refresh.

“This project is about upgrading essential infrastructure that has been in place for nearly three decades, while also creating a more comfortable and enjoyable space for passengers ahead of their journeys,” he said.
