A teenage sailor has described a £1,000 bursary as opening the door to an unforgettable offshore sailing adventure.
Seventeen-year-old Jamie Le Marquand was awarded last year’s Jersey Clipper Bursary, which helped fund his participation in the Tall Ships Race, sailing from Scotland to Norway aboard the fishing vessel Excelsior.
Le Marquand said the experience brought together young sailors from around the world, united by a shared passion for the sea. He added that the voyage was both challenging and rewarding, offering skills and memories that would stay with him for life.
The bursary, awarded annually, supports islanders taking part in maritime projects or training. The funding helps cover costs such as travel, specialist equipment and voyage fees.
Applications are now open again, with organisers encouraging anyone interested in a maritime opportunity to apply.
