Clarence Road school crossing to become permanent

A pedestrian crossing introduced on a trial basis in St Helier to improve safety for children and families travelling to school is to become a permanent feature.
The crossing, on Clarence Road at the junction with Pleasant Street, Grosvenor Street and College Hill, operates during school term time on weekday mornings from 07:45 to 08:45 and in the afternoon from 14:25 to 15:45.
Government officials said the trial had been successful and confirmed that the crossing would remain in place as part of wider efforts to create safer routes to schools across Jersey.
Other measures include a sign-controlled pedestrian crossing on Bagatelle Road, improvements to the shared path and crossing serving St Saviour’s School, and upgrades to the JCG crossing on Mont Millais.
A separate traffic restriction trial is also being carried out at Fountain Lane as part of the programme.
