Islanders experiencing mental health difficulties over the Christmas period are being urged to make use of a range of support services that will remain available throughout the festive season.

The Government of Jersey has confirmed that the Listening Lounge, which provides sup

port for adults facing common mental health challenges, will continue operating in the run-up to Christmas and into the New Year.

Round-the-clock help is also available through the online mental health platform TogetherAll, as well as the Samaritans helpline.

For those requiring urgent assistance, the Adult Mental Health 24-hour Crisis Team can be contacted on 445290. In addition, the Adult Community Mental Health Team will be operating between 9am and 5pm on Boxing Day.

Andy Weir, Director of Mental Health Services, Social Care and Community Services, said the festive season could be particularly difficult for some islanders.

“While Christmas is often seen as a time of celebration, it can be a challenging period for many people,” he said. “We want islanders to know they are not alone and that support is available. Reaching out can make a real difference.”

Health professionals have also encouraged residents to take practical steps to protect their mental wellbeing during the holiday period. Advice includes acknowledging difficult emotions, staying connected with friends, family or support services, and being open to small everyday interactions that can help reduce feelings of isolation.

Islanders are also advised to limit social media use, practice self-care through activities such as exercise or mindfulness, and set small, achievable goals to maintain routine and structure. Spending time outdoors, planning ahead for positive events and showing self-compassion during difficult moments have also been highlighted as beneficial.

Anyone affected by the issues raised is encouraged to seek support through local services or national helplines.
