Jersey Seeks Specialist Firm for Waterfront Chimney Maintenance
The Government of Jersey has launched a search for a specialist steeplejack firm to carry out essential maintenance on a set of industrial chimneys located along the St Helier waterfront.
The chimneys, which are housed within a tall stack owned by the Jersey Electricity Company, are used to vent emissions from the island’s Energy Recovery Facility — a vital part of Jersey’s waste-to-energy infrastructure. The facility has been in operation since 2011 and includes two flues that play a key role in managing the plant's output.
Given the height and complexity of the structure, the government is seeking experienced high-access contractors capable of undertaking the work safely and effectively. Steeplejack firms, known for their expertise in working at great heights on industrial structures such as chimneys and towers, are being encouraged to submit their interest.
An official expression of interest is now open, with firms invited to register their proposals by 18 April. The government has not specified the exact nature or timeline of the maintenance work, but the move underscores a commitment to ensuring the long-term efficiency and safety of key infrastructure on the island.
Interested contractors can find more details and submission requirements via Jersey’s procurement portal.
