Meals on Wheels Jersey has launched a new appeal for volunteer drivers to help ensure hot meals continue to reach Islanders who rely on the service, after several long-serving drivers recently stepped down.
The organisation says it is facing particular shortages on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and is keen to hear from people who can spare a small amount of time to support the community.
Drivers are asked to commit to a regular route once every two weeks. Volunteers collect freshly prepared meals from the Enid Quenault Centre before delivering them directly to clients’ homes.
A spokesperson for Meals on Wheels highlighted that the role is not only practical but also social, offering volunteers the opportunity to build relationships with those receiving meals as well as with other members of the team.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver can contact the charity by emailing mowdrivers.jersey@yahoo.co.uk.
Further details about the service are available at www.mealsonwheels.je.
