Cimandis to Close Jersey Depot Amid Economic Pressures
Food wholesaler Cimandis Foodservice has announced plans to close its Jersey depot at the Rue des Pres Trading Estate in St Saviour by the end of July, citing mounting financial challenges.
The company, which operates across the Channel Islands with additional sites in Guernsey and Alderney, said the decision came after continued economic strain made operations in Jersey no longer viable.
“This was not a decision we made lightly,” a company spokesperson stated. “However, increasingly difficult trading conditions have made it unsustainable to continue operations at the Jersey site.”
Despite the closure, Cimandis—part of the Caterfood Buying Group—confirmed it would continue to serve its regular Jersey-based customers in the lead-up to the shutdown. Services to Herm and Sark will remain unaffected.
Company Director Nigel Holliday pointed to sharp rises in rental rates and shipping costs as key factors behind the move.
“Despite our diligent efforts, the economic environment has exerted substantial pressure on our capacity to sustain a viable business model,” he said.
In a bid to support affected employees, Cimandis is reportedly working with other food service providers in the region to assist staff in securing new roles.
