Jersey Woman Completes Month-Long Running Challenge in Memory of Late Mother
A woman from Jersey has completed a month-long running challenge in honour of her mother, raising thousands for a local cancer charity.
Daisy Daly, 27, ran 5km (3.2 miles) every day throughout July to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support Jersey. The fundraiser was held in memory of her mother, Nicola Daly, who passed away five years ago from malignant melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer that can spread to other parts of the body.
Throughout the month, Ms Daly was supported by friends and family who joined her on various runs. Her final run concluded at the Waterfront Gardens, where supporters gathered to celebrate her achievement with flowers and prosecco.
By the end of her challenge, Ms Daly had raised more than £6,400 for MacMillan Jersey, a charity that had supported her mother during her illness. In addition to raising funds, she used the challenge as a platform to increase awareness about the risks of skin cancer, regularly sharing updates and information on social media.
The emotional final run saw a number of participants join in, including those who had been following her journey throughout the month. Many were visibly moved as the group crossed the finish line together.
MacMillan Cancer Support Jersey praised Ms Daly’s efforts, noting both the fundraising success and the impact of her openness in sharing her personal story. Her dedication, they said, helps raise awareness and encourages others to be vigilant about sun safety and skin health.
