Concerns Raised Over Decline in Work and Education at La Moye Prison
A new inspection report has raised concerns over the decline of work and education opportunities for prisoners at La Moye in Jersey.
Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor praised the prison’s leadership and safety but warned that since 2017, education and work provision had "almost collapsed." He stressed the urgent need to rebuild programs that prepare inmates for successful reintegration.
Justice Minister Mary Le Hegarat acknowledged the concerns and said improvements were underway, including new courses in horticulture, computer literacy, and industrial cleaning. A full review of education provision is also in progress.
