Broad Street Upgrade to Begin in September

Work is due to start on 1 September on the first stage of a major facelift for Broad Street in St Helier, the government has confirmed.

The initial phase will focus on the section between Lloyds Bank and the Post Office, which is set to become a pedestrian-priority area. Plans include fresh paving, new seating and street furniture, and the planting of trees.

The scheme builds on recent changes at New Cut and King Street, where vehicle access has been limited to create a safer and more attractive environment.

During the works, Broad Street will be closed to traffic, though pedestrians will still be able to use the area. Cyclists will need to dismount when passing through, while bus services and delivery routes will be temporarily diverted.

The current phase is scheduled to continue until March 2026, with additional stages of the revamp expected to run through to late 2027. Updates will be provided via the government’s online blog.
