Blue Skies but a Bitter Chill on Boxing Day in Jersey

Jersey experienced a cold but visually striking Boxing Day, with bright blue skies and winter sunshine offering a pleasant backdrop despite a sharp chill in the air.
Temperatures struggled to rise above 4–5°C throughout the day, with a brisk north-easterly breeze making conditions feel colder, particularly in exposed coastal areas. Early morning frost lingered in some places, and the cold snap continued the wintry theme that settled over the island during Christmas.

Despite the low temperatures, clear skies and sunshine made for an attractive day, encouraging some islanders to head outdoors for walks and post-Christmas outings — albeit well wrapped up. The combination of sunshine and cold air created what many described as a “crisp” winter’s day.
Forecasters say icy patches could still develop later this evening and overnight, especially on untreated roads and pavements, and drivers and pedestrians are being urged to take care.
While the cold conditions are expected to continue in the short term, the settled weather has brought a welcome contrast to recent grey and wet spells, offering Jersey a bright — if chilly — end to the festive period.
