Blue Islands and Unite Continue Talks Over Union Recognition for Jersey Crew
Efforts to secure union recognition for Blue Islands’ Jersey-based crew are progressing, with Unite the Union expressing optimism about reaching an agreement.
The union has been in discussions with the airline to establish formal recognition, which would grant staff collective bargaining rights.
Blue Islands operates flights to various destinations, including the UK, Guernsey, Paris, and Dublin.
James Turner, a representative of Unite, acknowledged that negotiations had been ongoing for some time. He also confirmed that the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service had stepped in to assist with the process.
Progress Amid Challenges
A further meeting is scheduled in the hopes of finalising an agreement with the airline.
Turner praised the union’s members at Blue Islands for their perseverance, stating: “Our members deserve recognition for their resilience and patience. The process has been frustrating at times, but they remain committed to achieving their goal.”
A spokesperson for Blue Islands confirmed that discussions were continuing in a “constructive” manner.
“We are dedicated to following the appropriate procedures and best practices, ensuring that all voices are heard,” the airline said.
The company emphasised its commitment to maintaining open communication with employees and said it was taking the necessary time to evaluate the implications of formal recognition.
