Government Pledges Support for Battle of Flowers Amid Financial Concerns
The Government of Jersey has expressed its commitment to supporting the Battle of Flowers following concerns over the event’s financial losses. A special committee meeting revealed that despite receiving a £270,000 government grant, the 2024 event still incurred a £150,000 loss.
Exhibitors were shocked by the overspending, with Martyn Maguire from the Grouville Battle of Flowers Association admitting, "We have no idea why we're so much overspent." Steve Bouchard from the Optimist’s Club feared the event’s cancellation, warning that stopping now could threaten its future.
Minister for Sustainable Economic Development Kirsten Morel affirmed the government’s support but noted that organisers had yet to submit a grant request for 2025. He emphasised the event’s cultural significance and vowed to work towards securing its long-term sustainability.
