Artists selected for Central Market community project

Artists Launch 'Fish Wish Residency' at Jersey's Central Market

Jersey artists Esther Rose Parkes and Karen Le Roy Harris have been chosen for a three-month residency at Beresford Street Fish Market. Inspired by childhood memories of wishing at the market’s fountain, the pair will create a public artwork blending sculpture, sound, and community input.

Dubbed the Fish Wish Residency, the project involves collecting stories and wishes from market-goers, fishermen, florists, farmers, and visitors. These contributions will shape a collaborative choir performance and a centerpiece installation of "ropes knitted with community wishes," suspended above the fountain.

The temporary studio, open from January 24 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, invites the public to watch the artists at work. Workshops and activities will also be announced soon.

The residency is supported by ArtHouse Jersey, Creative Island Partnership, and Jersey Markets.
