Charity Run Honouring Baby Loss Returns to Jersey for Sixth Year
A community running event inspired by personal loss will return to Jersey’s coastline this April, raising funds for a charity supporting bereaved families and promoting safer pregnancies.
The Seymour Sprint, now in its sixth year, was founded by Helier de Veulle after he and his wife Vicky experienced the stillbirth of their daughter Katherine in 2007. The event supports Philip’s Footprints, a Jersey-based charity set up by Jo and Paul Nash in memory of their son Philip.
This year’s event, taking place on 26 April, offers three participation options to suit all levels of fitness: a 10km trail run, a shorter 6km route, and a new 6km “Seymour Stroll” for walkers.
“With Gorey Castle at your back and Seymour Tower ahead, the route offers a stunning view of Jersey’s south-east coast,” said Mr de Veulle. “It’s a meaningful run in a beautiful setting.”
The 10km course stretches from Longbeach along the shoreline to Seymour Slip, continuing out across the Ramsar Wetlands to the historic Seymour Tower before looping back. The 6km run follows the same path but turns back at Seymour Slip. The Seymour Stroll, introduced this year, offers a gentler walk along the same scenic route.
Jo Nash, founder of Philip’s Footprints, welcomed the return of the event: “We’re thrilled to have the Seymour Sprint as part of our annual fundraising calendar. It’s a special and iconic part of the island, and our community continues to show incredible support.”
Participants are asked to register in advance, with sign-up closing at 6pm on 25 April.
