Jersey GP Practice Trials AI System to Support Doctors and Patients
A Jersey GP surgery has become the first on the island to trial artificial intelligence software designed to ease the workload of doctors and improve patient care.
Health Plus is piloting Heidi Health, a system that records and transcribes conversations during consultations. The technology aims to free up GPs from note-taking so they can concentrate fully on their patients.
Dr Ed Klaber, who is leading the trial, said the tool could help doctors be “more present” during appointments, improve communication, and enhance the overall patient experience. He added that it could also save practitioners “a considerable amount of time”.
The AI platform is already in use across 50 countries and can also generate referral letters and patient correspondence based on what was discussed in the consultation, according to Digital Jersey, the government-backed body promoting technology on the island.
Chief executive Tony Moretta stressed the system complies with local data protection rules. Patient consent is required before use, and all data is securely stored within the EU.
“We firmly believe technological innovation like this has the potential to bring real benefits to our community,” he said.
