DFDS Launches First Inter-Island Ferry Service with Guernsey Arrival

The first DFDS-operated inter-island ferry has officially docked in Guernsey, marking the beginning of a new service linking the Channel Islands.

Chris Parker, Route Director for Jersey at DFDS, said the team is eager to gauge public interest before considering any potential service expansion. “We’re looking forward to seeing how many people we get on,” he said.

Currently, the service runs once a week on Mondays and will continue through August. Mr. Parker emphasised that the growing availability of operators between the islands offers greater flexibility and choice for islanders.

“There’s a process to getting these things right,” he explained. “It takes time to secure permits and complete planning for the vessel’s operations.”

Boosting Inter-Island Travel and Tourism

DFDS had previously tested the waters by operating a special service for this year’s Muratti football tournament. The new weekly connection is intended not only for residents but also as a convenient option for overseas tourists hoping to explore both Jersey and Guernsey during their visit.

“Travelling by ferry is a wonderful experience,” said Mr. Parker. “When we promote Jersey, we’re also showcasing Guernsey, because visitors often want to experience both islands—especially those coming from further afield.”

Murray Norton, Chief Executive of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the development, describing it as a valuable addition for business, leisure, and sports-related travel.

“The introduction of another inter-island service is an important asset for both islands,” he said. “It will undoubtedly attract more visitors, who contribute to local economies by spending with on-island businesses.”
