Jersey gas cut: Plans for compensation and goodwill payments

Business customers of Island Energy can now apply for compensation after the loss of gas supply in October.

People were without gas for about a week after Island Energy shut its network down following a loss of power at La Collette, in Jersey Island Energy said compensation bids would be reviewed on a case by case basis.

The firm said it was also finalising plans to offer a goodwill payment to domestic customers.

An Island Energy spokesperson said payments agreed with businesses would complement any business insurance they already had.

"Business customers are now able to speak to our team about the disruption and there is a process for them to follow to show us any adverse effects they may have experienced."

They asked customers to "bear with" them as there was "no pre-agreed or pre-planned conditions for payments to customers when disruption occurs". Finding an appropriate resolution had "taken considerable time and is the reason for the delay in the announcement of our plan," they added.

Up to 4,500 homes and businesses were left without gas when the connection was dropped when a "rogue code" forced the firm's plant to shutdown.
