Summer months prompt carbon monoxide warning.

The island's fire service urged residents to ensure they have a carbon monoxide alarm installed in their homes. The gas, which is produced when fossil fuels burn inefficiently in appliances like faulty boilers or cookers, is both colorless and odorless, making it difficult to detect.

Firefighters highlighted that around 60 deaths occur annually in the UK due to carbon monoxide poisoning, and having a working alarm can significantly lower the risk.

In a Facebook post, the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service referred to carbon monoxide as a "silent killer," emphasising that "carbon monoxide is undetectable by human senses," which is why alarms are crucial for safety.
